Britain : Southern England

Southern England is one of the most beautiful, diverse and captivating areas in the country. It is an area of contrasting features from idyllic countryside, tranquil rural villages and traditional seaside resorts to dramatic cliff top coastlines, meandering waterways and canals and vibrant cosmopolitan cities steeped in history and heritage.

The world-famous prehistoric monument of Stonehenge was built as a ceremonial centre over 5000 years ago.

The massive stone lintels are mortice- and-tenoned to the upright stones and are curved to follow a circle. Some of the stones weigh over 50 tons each & were brought from the Preseli Mountains in Wales.
Due north of Stonehenge, the prehistoric site of Avebury is one of the country's most impressive and most mysterious environments.

The village of Avebury is set in a landscape of earthworks and megalithic standing stones and Silbury Hill lies just southwest.
