- Scandinavia
-
During April 2003, I spent a month
travelling around Scandinavia with my best friend Helen.
-
- Starting in
Oslo, we travelled on the historic Flåm
Railway across to Bergen on the west coast.
From here we boarded "the
Hurtigruten"
for a 10-night cruise up the Norwegian coast; crossing the Arctic
Circle and sailing as far north as Nordkapp; to Kirkenes near the Russian border; and through the Lofoten Islands. Leaving the ship in Trondheim, we travelled inland to the World
Heritage town of Røros before returning to
Oslo.
-
- In Denmark we travelled around Copenhagen; Odense; Vejle;
Billund; and the medieval town of Ribe.
-
- Travelling
overland by train from Copenhagen to Stockholm (Sweden) - we then
caught the overnight ferry to Helsinki (Finland). After exploring
Helsinki, we headed north to Rovaniemi - the capital of Lapland
and the home of Santa.
-
- Returning
the next day to Helsinki, we caught the overnight ferry back
to Stockholm where we spent a day exploring the city before catching
the train back to Copenhagen and flying to our respective homes.
