During April 2003, I spent a month travelling around Scandinavia with my best friend Helen.

Starting in Oslo, we travelled on the historic Flåm Railway across to Bergen on the west coast. From here we boarded "the Hurtigruten" for a 10-night cruise up the Norwegian coast; crossing the Arctic Circle and sailing as far north as Nordkapp; to Kirkenes near the Russian border; and through the Lofoten Islands. Leaving the ship in Trondheim, we travelled inland to the World Heritage town of Røros before returning to Oslo.

In Denmark we travelled around Copenhagen; Odense; Vejle; Billund; and the medieval town of Ribe.

Travelling overland by train from Copenhagen to Stockholm (Sweden) - we then caught the overnight ferry to Helsinki (Finland). After exploring Helsinki, we headed north to Rovaniemi - the capital of Lapland and the home of Santa.

Returning the next day to Helsinki, we caught the overnight ferry back to Stockholm where we spent a day exploring the city before catching the train back to Copenhagen and flying to our respective homes.
