Australia : New South Wales - Sydney page 1 of 2

Sydney is the shining star of the southern hemisphere and is the city where I was born. The white-sailed Sydney Opera House, caught mid-billow over the waters of Sydney Cove, and the Sydney Harbour Bridge are the pride and joy, but there's far more on offer. You'll need days to discover the harbour, the city's historic enclaves, restaurants and cafes, Olympic venues, glamorous beaches, museums and art galleries, and the national parks and wildlife within the city and on its fringes.

Sydney's harbour is the jewel in the city's crown. It's flanked by golden beaches and bushland, and is bisected by one of the most famous bridges in the world. Islands sprinkle its waters, and it's crisscrossed by all manner of craft, from water taxis and yachts to tour boats and ferries. With more than 70 uncrowded beaches within easy reach of its cosmopolitan heart, Sydney is a mecca for sunworshippers and surfers alike. From famous ocean beaches like Bondi to Manly, to less well-known strips of golden sand.

Sydney Tower takes you a staggering 250 metres above Sydney, commanding breathtaking views of one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

The Rocks lies beneath the giant arch of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and overlooks the famous sails of the Opera House. This historic quarter of Sydney was the site of the first colonial settlement in Australia in 1788 and is now home to colourful characters, residents and artists.
