Italy - Pisa & Florence page 1 of 3

We travelled to Pisa to see the Leaning Tower and Baptistry. Then through the vineyards and olive groves of Tuscany as we headed for Florence.

In Florence our local guide took us on a walking tour of the Duomo, Giotto’s Belltower, Basilica of Santa Croce and Piazza della Signoria. We had time to shop for leather and silver and gold, and time to visit one of the many galleries or museums in this ‘City of Art’.

We travelled south through the center of Italy passing medieval hillside villages and on to the fabled Seven Hills of the Eternal City, Rome, where we enjoyed a walking tour of this ancient city including the Piazza Navona, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. We also discovered the ancient ruins of Rome with a local guide and enjoyed free time to leisurely discover the secrets of the Vatican City and the Sistine Chapel.

Leaving Rome there was time to tour the ancient city of Pompeii as we crossed Italy to Brindisi for our overnight ferry to the Greek island of Corfu (refer to Greece section).

After an overnight ferry from Corfu (Greece) we enjoyed a spectacular morning arrival into the Port of Venice - one of Europe’s most impressive sights. After docking we headed to St Mark’s Square, the Doges’ Palace and Bridge of Sighs where we saw glass and lace making demonstrations. We also took a trip to one of the outer islands and later treated ourselves to a Gondola Ride.
