Africa

Africa - just mention the word to someone who has experienced Africa and their response is almost tangible. Evocative images of warm, balmy nights, and hot challenging days are instantly recalled. Images and experiences that will be a part of you forever.

I first travelled to Africa in November 2002 to attend UTAG Travel's 22nd Annual General Meeting which was hosted at Sun City, in South Africa’s North West Province (187 kms - 2 1/2 hours drive - from Johannesburg). After the conference, Stuart & I flew north to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, and travelled overland to Kasane & Chobe in Botswana.

Apart from being one of the safest and economically most stable holiday destinations in Africa, Botswana is renowned for its unspoilt wilderness areas and spectacular game. We stayed overnight at "Elephant Valley Lodge" – situated between the Zambezi and Chobe river systems, near the township of Kasane, in the heart of elephant territory. The area is on the traditional elephant route between Hwange and Chobe National Parks.

After our brief stay in Botswana, we travelled overland back to Victoria Falls - Zimbabwe - where we stayed at the "Victoria Falls Safari Lodge" for two nights. Surrounded by 80,000 hectares of unspoilt African bush, the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge has gained world-renowned acclaim for providing guests with an unforgettable African experience.

This was my first taste of Africa, and left with me an insatiable desire to discover more.

During 2003 I successfully completed a comprehensive tourism course with South African Tourism and qualified as an accredited South African Tourism Expert or "Fundi Agent". During March 2004, South African Tourism invited me back to South Africa (together with 11 other Fundi Certified Agents from various countries around the world), for a 2-week stay. During our stay in South Africa we travelled extensively throughout Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal and the Western Cape. It was an absolutely amazing experience and the first-hand knowledge gained and the new friendships and contacts formed was invaluable!

In March 2005, the Africa Safari Co invited me to travel to Namibia with them for 10-days. Wedged between the vast Kalahari and the fog-shrouded Atlantic, Namibia is one of Southern Africa's most fascinating destinations. We explored the areas of Windhoek, the Namib Naukluft Park, Sossusvlei, Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Twyfelfontein, Etosha National Park, & Otjiwarongo.

Come with me know as I share my experiences of Africa with you...
